Walter Stanley DeLany was born January 21, 1891, in Reading, Pennsylvania. He served as commander of Destroyer Division Seven, Battle Force from 1938 to 1939, and was promoted to rear admiral in May 1942. He retired as a vice admiral in February 1953. Richmond K. Turner (1885-1961) was born in Portland, Oregon. He attended high school in Stockton, California, before his appointment to the Naval Academy. Graduating with distinction in June 1908, fifth in a class of 201, he served the two years at sea then required by law, before being commissioned ensign in June 1910. Forrest Betton Royal was born February 10, 1983, in New York City. He received his commission as Ensign in the U.S. Navy in June 1915, and advanced to the rank of rear admiral on March 14, 1944.
